Vale pay for beating Gretna 9-1 as 2008 boys give coaches a good swan song

Gretna 2008 2

PLAYING their final match of the season at Victoria Park, the Gretna lads rallied round to give manager Stuart Rome and assistant Barry Graham a good send-off in their last match in charge of 2008.

It took a controversial Dean Rea penalty to break the deadlock just before the break and then the fans had to wait until the dying minutes for further scores.

The Gretna midfield, still missing the injured Slattery, was bolstered by the return of David Seggie and they restricted Vale to long range efforts, although Steven Radzynski had a headed goal chalked off for offside.

Jonny Blake side-footed the ball into Vale’s net to double the scoreline, but almost immediately Scott Moffat got a consolation for the homesters with a shot high into the right corner of Connor Grant’s goal.
