Vale lack want in cup quarters

Vale of Leithen1

BSC Glasgow2

A last-gasp goal in the 93rd minute of play from Aiden Malone put BSC through to the semi-finals of the South Region Challenge Cup at the expense of Vale, writes Dave Ryce.

In truth, the Glasgow side seemed to want it more and put Vale on the back foot for almost the entire first half.

Two good chances fell to striker Ciaran Johnston, Steven Bronsky headed one over and David Cameron saw a shot blocked on the line by Kris Mitchell before Vale had even mustered a shot on target. BSC took a deserved lead in the 36th minute when Gerry O’Connell fired over a corner and Ross McKinnon got the final touch after a bit of pinball in the area.

Glasgow tired in the second half, allowing Vale to finally get a foothold on the game and they equalised just past the hour mark when Jason Stevens burst through the defence and squared a ball for Jack Blaikie to slot home at the back post.

Further chances for Mitchell and Stevens were repelled, as BSC defended doggedly.

But as extra time loomed, Malone bundled another corner home to the delight of the travelling support.
