Hawick United 5

IN A whirlwind game that matched the blustery conditions, United took an early lead through a Michael Moir goal.

Sean Owens notched a second shortly afterwards, but Eyemouth duly reduced the leeway when new signing Gordon McCann netted a free kick. Andrew Patterson then grabbed an equaliser before the Fishermen went a man down when Jamie Logie was red-carded for retaliation.

United in turn edged ahead again when Ross Scott hammered home a Liam Lavery cross.

Following a slick passing move involving Owens, Scott and Ryan Shepherd, Kevin Strathdee hit in a fourth. Towards the interval, Hawick keeper John Paul Drysdale kept Eyemouth at bay with an excellent save from a penalty.

Early in the second period, United, too, were reduced to 10 men, due to Liam Lavery being sent off for a second bookable offence.

Play continued at a frantic pace and Eyemouth pulled a goal back when Richard Green landed a penalty.

The homesters followed this up with another goalbound strike from Patterson to get on level terms.

In injury time, Kevin Strathdee cracked home a free kick from his brother David and victory appeared to be heading United’s way. Seconds later, however, Eyemouth struck again when Green surged through for a dramatic last-gasp equaliser.
