Kind-hearted spectators at the Gala Fairydean Rovers v Dalbeattie Star match contributed £356.07 to a local charity’s coffers on Saturday.
Following the initiative set by several senior clubs this season, the Netherdale-based club invited supporters to pay what they wanted on entrance to the Lowland League game.
It was decided to give all proceeds from the gate to one of Gala’s nominated charities, Scottish HART (Heart at Risk Testing).
Wilma Gunn MBE, founder of Scottish HART, said: “We would like to express our sincere thanks to Gala Fairydean Rovers FC, the supporters who donated on Saturday and a special word of thanks to the committee of Dalbeattie Star, who also made a generous donation.”
Gala Fairydean Rovers FC secretary Graeme McIver said: “We are delighted that we have been able to contribute towards such a worthwhile cause.
“The club is keen to extend its relationships with local charities and community partners and Saturday was just the first in a series of events that aim to ensure that Gala Fairydean Rovers live up to their community initiative motto – ‘a club with a heart in the heart of its community’.
