Ten-man Fairies hold out to claim all three points

Ormiston 2

Gala Fairydean 3

JOHN CLAYTON reports from Recreation Park

PLAYING in blustery conditions, both sides huffed and puffed during the first half of this league game.

The first shot came from Chris Anderson, but this was mishit wide of the goal.

Elliott Turnbull then had to be on his toes to push an Ormiston free kick away at full stretch.

Just when it looked as if the first period would end goalless, Craig Tyson collected the ball in midfield and laid it off to Chris Anderson, who threaded the ball through the Ormiston back five for Tyson to collect and slot past the Ormiston keeper. Ormiston pressed for an equaliser early in the second half and Turnbull had to be on his mettle to make a save from Carlo Cennerazzo and then a double stop from Craig Fisher.

They were rewarded on the hour when Turnbull had to make an instinctive save from a powerful shot, but Craig Smith was on hand to tap in the rebound.

With 20 minutes remaining Paul Young drove a central free kick towards the edge of the Ormiston box and Ryan Sclater used the power in the free kick to flick his header wide of Paul Cadger to retake the lead.

Two minutes later, John Waldie disagreed with one of the referees’ decisions and unfortunately made his feelings known, receiving two yellow cards, which became a red.

Paul Young dropped back into central defence and Gala scored a third when Tyson sent a cross to the left of the Ormiston penalty area and Anderson coolly lobbed Cadger for a two-goal cushion.

There was still time for Ormiston substitute Liddell to whip a cross into the Gala six-yard box and Brian McEwan headed this past Turnbull at point-blank range.

This turned out to be too little too late for Ormiston and Gala held firm to claim another three points.

Gala Fairydean: Turnbull, Sclater, Glass, McBride, Waldie, Young, Hay, Boyes (Halley), Anderson, Tyson and Gow (Lochrie).
