TECHNICAL football development centres which helped the career of Hibs footballer Danny Galbraith have restarted in Galashiels.
The eight-week block of coaching for talented primary seven pupils – which also aided new Raith Rovers academy signing David Bonnar of Galashiels – aims to develop players ahead of possible selection for the Borders Sports Academy.
SFA development officer Drew Kelly added: “The aim of the Scottish FA technical development programme in the Borders is to provide extra coaching for players on top of any existing club/school sessions they already receive.
“The sessions are designed to help develop players to their full potential by coaching creativity and individual technique as well as an understanding of the game.
“The managers of Barcelona and Manchester United, contesting this year’s Champions League final, believe in these principles, so hopefully we can encourage our own homegrown talent for the future.”
Anyone interested in attending the sessions, priced at £2 each week, at Galashiels Academy on Mondays from 6.30pm to 8pm, should contact Scottish Borders Council’s sports development unit on 01896 756274.
