Sutherland cracker earns a point

Selkirk 1

Edinburgh City 1

A CRUCIAL point came Selkirk’s way on Saturday when they shared the spoils with Edinburgh City at Yarrow Park.

Des Sutherland put Selkirk ahead after 15 minutes with one of the most spectacular goals of the season. Jay Wilson fired a long ball into the box and Sutherland scissor-kicked it straight into the net without the City keeper even seeing it.

Ten minutes later, however, the visitors grabbed one back when Robbie Ross scored a soft goal from a free kick.

With both defences working well, there was no further scoring despite good efforts in the latter stages from Sutherland and Jason Cockburn.

The point can only help them in their efforts to stay in the top flight, but they remain at the bottom of the table, two points adrift of Preston.

At least one win is crucial in their next three matches if they are to avoid the drop.
