Students leave it late to sink Gala

Gala FR 1

Univ of Stirling 2

A last-gasp Chris Geddes strike denied Gala a share of the spoils under the Netherdale floodlights on Saturday evening.

The game had been switched to an unusual kick-off time to accommodate around 200 members of Groundhoppers UK who had also attended Lowland league matches at Innerleithen and Selkirk that day.

They were entertained to an intriguing clash between two good footballing sides with little to choose between the teams.

Lewis Bonar gave Stirling the lead with a shot which Gala keeper John Dodds could not prevent from crossing the line.

But Gala came storming back after the break and midfielder David Bonnar finished off a neat passing move by drilling a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.

It looked as though both sides would claim a well-earned point, but Geddes’ goal on the break sparked scenes of joy amongst the visitors.
