Streamers end Peebles Rovers’ good run

Peebles Rovers 0

Coldstream 3

MAURICE GORDON reports from Whitestone Park

PEEBLES’ encouraging second half to the season ended on a disappointing note with a heavy home defeat to Coldstream.

Rovers’ Fraser Henderson and Streamers’ Kenny Young both went close before Coldstream broke the deadlock in the 25th minute.

After playing a neat one-two with James Guy, Young crossed to Lee Zavaroni, who coolly slotted it past a helpless Bruce Callan from eight yards.

A pair of chances to equalise, seperated by the break, fell to Kevin Martin, but both went awry.

Instead, it was Coldstream who scored a second goal after 53 minutes when Callan hesitated in coming for a David Brown left-wing cross before Guy tapped the loose ball home from close range.

Peebles replied with Edgar pouncing on to a loose ball in midfield, but he could only fire it well over the crossbar from 20 yards.

Coldstream sealed their win with a third goal 10 minutes from full-time.

After a neat Streamers build-up, Zavaroni sent over a right-wing cross which picked out substitute Shaun Mullen at the near post, before he slammed the ball home from close in.
