Vale of Leithen0
Vale were never really at the races as the students ran out comfortable winners against a rather flat-looking Innerleithen side on Saturday, writes Dave Ryce.
The midfield was no place for the faint-hearted, with robust challenges aplenty, but it’s the area in which most games are won and lost, and Stirling put their stamp on it as the first half wore on.
They took the lead in the 20th minute when Lewis Bonnar rounded off a good move by chipping the ball past Vale keeper Andy McQueen and never looked back.
A quick two-goal blast towards the end of the first half effectively won the game for the students. Goal-machine Chris Geddes and midfielder Gary Crooks were the scorers.
The second period was better for Vale, as a long-range drive from Andrew Gillen and a snapshot by Crooks were the only incidents in which the visitors threatened to add to their lead.
