Solid performance gives Ancrum the edge

Coldstream Amateurs 2

Ancrum 4

When these two sides meet it is always an eagerly fought contest an sure enough they didn’t disappoint this time round.

The crowd didn’t have long to wait for the opening goal however with Ancrum making use of their early pressure. Tuddenham swung in a cross from the left hand side which was met by Ancrum’s top scorer Daniel Gillie who heading past the oncoming Black.

The Villagers second goal wasn’t too far away either. This time good work from Chapman and Thomas led to a scrappy goal-mouth tussle before the ball was tucked away nicely by Ash Langford.

Chances were to come from both sides Ancrum hitting the bar from a Scott header with Thomas missing the rebound and at the other end Simpson going close with a rasping volley from 30 yards just shaving the Ancrum crossbar.

The second half started much the same as the first with Ancrum having the upper hand in the early exchanges, Langford soon added his second, and Ancrum’s third, with a neat finish coming via a long throw. His hat-trick would be complete not long after that with Robinson and Thomas combining to set up the goal.

The introduction of Tait seemed to lift Coldstream and they showed great fighting spirit to grab a goal back with Waugh getting his name on the scoresheet, chasing down a great through-ball to tuck it away past Jack.

There was still enough time for Waugh to add to his tally challenging the Ancrum’s goalie in a 50/50 only to prevail with the ball and finish neatly to get his second of the match. That’s how the game would finish with Ancrum having large portions of the game and a pretty solid performance to boot.
