Six-shooters Waverley make it to Beveridge final despite losing keeper

Hawick Waverley 6

Newtown 1

DESPITE playing most of the second half with only 10 men, due to the red-carding of goalkeeper Euan Reilly, Waverley marched into the final of the Beveridge Cup in style.

The hosts netted the only goal of the first half when Dean McColm shot home after the Newtown keeper had punched out a Taylor Hope free kick. Three minutes into the second period, Waverley extended their lead by courtesy of an own goal.

Within minutes of this, Reilly was given his marching orders for bringing down a Newtown attacker in the box. The visitors were also awarded a penalty from which they scored.

With outfield player Ross Wallace in goal, Waverley, however, soon restored their two-goal lead when a good move involving Jamie Richardson and Craig McCutcheon ended in McColm scoring.

Waverley kept up the good work and McColm completed his hat-trick, as well as notching his 30th goal of the season, tucking away a penalty after Jordan Yardley had been upended.

Yardley then made it a nap hand for the homesters and duly brought an end to the scoring, blasting home a McCutcheon cross.
