Rovers routed by cracking Craigie

Craigroyston 7

Peebles Rovers 0

PEEBLES Rovers slumped to their heaviest defeat of the season against strong Craigie.

The Borderers started brighter as Nicky Cairns volleyed wide, but Craigie took the lead as Gerri Burgess fed Chris Inglis, whose cross was headed in by Liam Jack.

David Knox shot narrowly past for the visitors, but Craigie added a second when Jack shot home a Paul Lynch corner. Then Rovers keeper Kris Lennie denied Jack his hat-trick, before Chris Gordon shot high.

Peebles best spell of the match came just before half-time with Cairns, Michael McKenzie and Knox all having attempts that didn’t threaten Stuart Addison’s goal.

Craigie effectively sealed the points early in the second half when Gordon headed in an excellent Russell Hogarth cross.

After a Peebles defender was robbed by Inglis, Errol Douglas unselfishly squared for Gordon, but Lennie saved his first attempt, and his second was cleared off the line by Jason Girdwood. Then Burgess saw his strike hit the post, but the Edinburgh side eventually added a fourth when Lennie could only turn a Burgess cross into the path of Inglis,
who fired into the empty net.

As if things couldn’t get worse for Rovers, a fifth goal arrived through Gordon, quickly followed by a second bookable offence for Girdwood.

Craigroyston took advantage of the extra man when Paul Greenhill netted.

The final goal came in the 90th minute when David Jeffrey set up Gordon for his hat-trick to top off a day to forget for Peebles.
