Rovers in cup mismatch

Lothian Thistle Hutchie Vale 6

Peebles 0

FACING Premier One opposition in an away fixture on Friday evening proved just a tad too much for Peebles Rovers last weekend.

Playing on their home ground at Saughton, Thistle dominated for long periods throughout the match to progress in the cup competition.

Joe Murray headed the ball over Peebles keeper Scott Carruthers, while Conan McDiarmid extended Thistle’s lead before the break when his free kick deflected off the wall, leaving Carruthers no chance.

It was more of the same in the second half as the city side turned up the pressure to ensure a safe passage through to the second round.

Alan McDonaugh began the rout before Kenny Fisher made it four with a blast into the net.

McDiarmid grabbed his second through a close-range header while Richie Wilkes scored the final goal following a failed attempt by the visitors to clear their lines.
