Rovers get late leveller

Hawick Legion Rovers 2

Gala Hotspur 2

IN A game in which both sides had their moments, Rovers drew first blood by opening the scoring just before the quarter-hour mark.

On breaking through on his own, William Monteith was brought down in full flight by the Gala keeper. The referee awarded a penalty and Monteith put away the resultant spot kick.

Minutes later Andrew McFarlane had the ball in the net for Rovers, only for the goal to be chalked off for offside.

The remainder of the first half failed to conjure up any more goals, but following the changeover Hotspur netted twice through Liam Hardie and John Penny in a five-minute spell.

With 10 minutes of the game remaining, Rovers equalised through substitute John Shankie who drilled a shot out of the reach of the Hotspur keeper after latching on to a long ball from Monteith.
