Rovers enjoy two cup wins in three days

Tweeddale Rovers 4

Stow 3

TWEEDDALE reached the final of the Walls Cup with an exciting cup tie last Thursday.

The hosts took the lead against the run of play when Grant Wilson turned in a cross from James Lord, before Stow equalised with a thunderous free kick from Pawel Marszalek that beat the Tweeddale wall and keeper Bob Hall.

Stow scored two quick goals at the start of the second half, one a header from Liam Hewitt, the other a penalty from Bruce Hunter, to give the visitors a 3-1 advantage.

Nick Rogers pulled one back when he headed in a Grant Wilson free kick, before Wilson again provided the cross for Chris Cassidy to shoot low past the Stow keeper to draw Rovers level.

Chris Cassidy scored the winner when he latched on to a long ball to round the keeper.

ON Saturday Tweeddale came out on top in their second cup tie in three days.

The game produced two hat-tricks, the first being the three goals Grant Wilson scored to take his total for the season to 35, the other being the trio of Moffat brothers starting in the back for Rovers.

Tweeddale opened the scoring when a cross from James Lord was met by Wilson before Hotspur drew level from the penalty spot when Blair Moffat handled in the box and Michael Macewan slotted the resultant kick.

Wilson put the home side in the lead when he curled a beauty into the top corner, and went on to complete his treble shortly afterwards.

Young Calum Frain put the icing on the cake when a left-foot drive nestled in the bottom corner of the Hotspur net.
