Rangers show interest in young Duns footballer

Following a successful training period at Glasgow Rangers Training Academy Jamie Whitehead (pictured left) from Duns and Kieran Clark from Melrose, who both play for Gala Fairydean Rovers Youths, impressed the coaching staff enough to be invited back to play three games for the club's U14s side as trialists.

The first game against Partick Thistle at Ibrox Park saw Rangers win 4-1. The second match was at Rangers Training Acadamy against Queens Park where they won 4-0 and the third game was at Ochilview Stadium in Stenhousemuir where they won 10-0 against Fife Elite.

Jamie played for an hour in each game and thoroughly enjoyed the experience more especially being a Rangers fan and getting the opportunity to play at Ibrox. He said: “It was a dream come true. On the day of the game we got the whole match day experience from being welcomed in the front doors at Ibrox to getting ready in the home dressing room and running down the tunnel onto the pitch. It was quite a hectic week what with all of the travelling but one I will never forget.”

Both boys held their own playing amongst some of the top youth players in the country and have been invited back to pre-season training.
