MARK HATELEY believes more 3G pitches should be built in the Borders.

The former Rangers striker was in Melrose last week to open the football club’s new clubhouse at Gibson Park.

And he told TheSouthern that facilities are the most important aspect to developing young players in Scotland.

Melrose FC chairman Ray Fenton also backed calls for state of the artificial pitches to be rolled out across the region, following the success of Galashiels’ 3G Arena.

Watch TheSouthern’s video interviews with both Hateley and Fenton online now, and read the fully story in Thursday’s newspaper.
