Quick goal kick-starts Waverley rout

Hawick Waverley 6

Chirnside 3

WAVERLEY got off to a dream start by taking the lead through a Barry Shiel goal with just 40 seconds gone.

Four minutes later Kier Blaikie put Chirnside on level terms and in the 12th minute the Berwickshire men took the lead when Tom Ireland scored.

Within two minutes, however, Waverley equalised when Scott Craig bulleted home a Shiel cross with his head.

In the 25th minute Dean McColm got himself on the Waverley scoresheet, beating the Chirnside keeper with a free kick. The action continued to flow and on the half-hour mark Connor Lough grabbed a leveller for the visitors.

With three minutes of a fast-flowing first-half remaining Craig restored Waverley’s lead, heading home a Shiel cross.

In the 60th minute, Shiel made it a nap hand for Waverley with a penalty after Taylor Hope had been brought down.

Craig then completed his hat-trick when scoring with a left-footed drive from a Shiel cross.
