(game abandoned after 90 minutes)
Six goals were scored, there were two penalties, a sending-off, some fluent football and plenty of thrills and spills in this South of Scotland Cup third-round clash, writes John Slorance.
At the end of it all, though, it was back to square one.
For after 90 minutes of lively action, the scheduled extra time and penalty shoot-out to bring about a winning result had vanished in the chilly air that hung over Wilton Lodge Park.
Thanks to a lot of hard work, the pitch had been cleared by two snowploughs in the morning.
However, as the match progressed, the park cut up badly. Underfoot conditions really deteriorated and referee Eddie Walsh had no option but to call a halt to proceedings.
Kevin Strathdee, Sean Solley and Charlie Mitchell scored United’s goals.
A replay is scheduled for Wilton Lodge Park this Saturday.
