Mixed fortunes for Fairies

Gala Fairydean U-17s 2

Lauder U-17s 2

SBJFA Under-17s

AFTER last month’s referee dispute, Gala and Lauder restarted their league campaign with an entertaining draw at Netherdale.

Gala took an early lead when Duncan Kemp broke through a high Lauder back four, driving a low cross that was met by David Robertson to tap home.

Lauder tested Gala keeper Mikey Sanderson throughout the first half and finally got their reward through a defensive mistake.

The quick-passing Lauder side added a second minutes later to take the lead into the break.

The second half started brightly for both teams as Gala tried tirelessly to break Lauder’s strong back four and after three successive corners finally drew level when John Rose headed home.

Gala were denied a winner minutes from time when Kemp slotted past the keeper, only to be judged offside. Gala played the closing minutes with 10 men after a dispute with the referee led to captain Dylan Howel being dismissed.

Edinburgh City U-19s 7

GALA hosted Edinburgh City in a hotly-anticipated League Cup fixture, with the Dean hoping to revenge their 3-2 loss away to City the previous week.

The game started well for the visitors who took a two-goal lead .

Jack Hay netted for Gala to make it 2-1 before City put away a third just before half-time.

Missing six regulars, the young Fairydean team struggled in the second half as City took advantage of the age difference, hitting the homesters on the break.

Gala conceded goal after goal being picked off at the back as the Edinburgh side finished the game emphatic victors.
