Elswhere, youngster Kerr Scott scored twice and Jordan Easton grabbed the third as Selkirk recorded an impressive 3-0 win away to Gretna. Gala Fairydean Rovers lost 3-1 at Spartans, with Dean McColm scoting the visitors’ only goal in their penultimate league fixture of the season.

A week after dismissing manager Mickey Lawson, Vale had Mark Lamb in temporary charge but any hope of a reversal in the Innerelthen side’s fortnutes have been crushed in an humilatiating defeat.

Graeme Bell gave the Dalbeattie the lead at Victoria Park before the home side levelled right on the stroke of half time.

But it all went wrong for Vale in the second half, with Dalbeattie’s Lewis Sloan scoring a hat-trick for the second match in a row. The other scorers were Tommy Muir (2), Jamie McHarrie and Lewis Todd.

Vale host league leaders Edinburgh City on Wednesday night. Selkirk are also in action midweek. They host Stirling University on Tuesday night. Both games kick off at 6.30pm.
