Kelso hold out to win tight home encounter

Kelso 3

Gala 2

Playing in high winds and rain, Kelso Under-14s entertained Galashiels at Woodside Park in the second match of the season.

The game got off to a flying start with Iain Gay putting the home side ahead.

Kelso quickly capitalised on their quick start with another goal, headed from a corner by Kyle Blaikie.

The wind was a definite advantage and the Tweedsiders continued to pile on the pressure, only missing out on extending their lead due to some fine defending and goalkeeping from the Galashiels side.

The second period of the game saw the visitors taking advantage of the wind and keeping Kelso pinned down in their own half.

They failed to convert their pressure into goals, though, and the third period began at 2-0 to Kelso. The Tweedsiders extended their lead with another sweetly-struck goal by Gay.

Gala countered almost immediately with a breakaway goal from Michael Louth and quickly found the back of the net again following a goalmouth scramble, with Dylan Stanbury getting the final touch.

The last 10 minutes were tight, with both sides vying for the extra goal, but despite a last-minute break by Gala, Kelso managed to hold out for the win.
