Jed Legion 2-3 Gordon

Captain Utterson scored two goals in the first half while player/manager Livingstone’s strike halted a Jed Legion second half comeback which could well have won them the trophy at Woodside Park.

That mattered little to Utterson and Co, who now aim to claim another first - the Division A title.

Former Scotland rugby cap Utterson said: “It is a dream to score in a cup final.

“We had to dig deep in the second half. We knew Jed would come back at us and they deserve a lot of credit.

“This is a big season for us, with our main objective is to win Division A.”

Jed Legion have been the surprise side of the season so far, topping Division A after avoiding relegation last season due to other teams pulling out of the league.

Gordon sit just behind Jed, and have plenty of experience in their ranks, which showed in a poor spectacle of a first half.

Despite failing to impress, Gordon took their chances to go in at half time 2-0 up.

The first on 26 minutes saw Livingstone beat his marker down the left before setting up Jamie Milner whose cross gave Utterson the easiest chance to put Gordon ahead.

And an overhead kick from close range saw Utterson doubled the lead on 35 minutes.

The cup appeared to be making the short trip from Kelso to Gordon, but Jed fought back gamely and were level within 18 minutes of half time.

Nathan Gillie firstly pulled a goal back with a fierce free kick past ex-Gala Fairydean stopper Elliot Turnbull on 54 minutes.

And after missing some great chances, Sean Clarke found the net on 63 minutes with a deflected shot to send Jed into wild celebrations.

But Livingstone stepped up to rescue his side with a poacher’s goal with 14 minutes to go.

Jed refused to give up and Chris Gillon’s header was saved by Turnbull before the striker was sent off in the final minutes for pushing Greig Porter.

There was one last chance for Legion but ex-Kelso United midfielder Jamie Swailes fired over after Turnbull had made a rare mistake and dropped a cross.

Legion manager Derek McLachlan said: “I thought we dominated the second half but we conceded three scrappy goals in the game and that cost us.

“We created some really good chances and didn’t take them. However, I am proud of the players and we will have more opportunities this season.”
