Hotspur fail to live up to the occasion

Gala Hotspur 1

Lauder 2

a Johnny Millar strike gave Lauder all three points and extinguished Gala Hotspur’s hopes of promotion.

Spurs started this match as if it were a meaningless end-of-season affair, and the visitors took the lead through a deflected shot by Mark Williamson which looped over home keeper Shaun Bell.

The hosts dominated territory in the second period and eventually found goal, but were aided by Lauder keeper Davie Halfpenny as Scott Fraser’s looping shot was dropped into the net by the former Hawick Royal Albert manager after 65 minutes.

However, Lauder were soon ahead once more.

Millar looked to have strayed into an offside position, but play was waved on and the striker, who trained with Spurs at the start of the season, produced a cool finish past Bell.

Gala continued to press for a second equaliser in the closing stages, but Halfpenny and his defence easily dealt with the home side’s efforts.
