Hotspur fail to find the net for first time

Winton 4

Gala Hotspur 0

GALA Hotspur crashed out of the Collie Cup after conceding two goals in both halves at Meadowmill.

Winton started the game well and were two up within 20 minutes, due in part to poor Gala defending, and it could have been three until Glen Murray made a superb save from a free kick on 25 minutes.

But Spurs reacted and dominated the final 20 minutes of the first half, only to be denied by ex-Gala Fairydean keeper Gavin McLean.

The Winton stopper’s best save came from a Scott Nightingale header, which seemed destined for the net.

After the break, Gala’s attempts to get back into the game became more desperate and Winton added a further two goals, the first a superb solo effore from the home side’s right winger.

Division C table-toppers Gala kept pressing until the final whistle, but were unable to get on the scoresheet for the first time this season.
