Hosts come good in second half

Vale of Leithen2

Gretna 20080

Vale got off to a winning start as the Lowland League kicked off, but had to withstand plenty of pressure from the visitors first.

The sense of occasion seemed to get to both sides as a nervy first half ended goalless, despite Gretna creating plenty of chances.

Vale opened the scoring midway through the second half when Gretna defender Daniel Bulman clattered Scott Gormley in the area and the latter tucked away the penalty.

The points were sealed when Scott Moffat fed a ball through for substitute Stewart O’Neil to poke home.
