Hawick Royal Albert 1 Eyemouth United 0

Royal Albert gained a much needed win in the East of Scotland First Division when playing host to Eyemouth at a sunny Albert Park on Saturday.

Hawick kept their foot on the gas from the off and Shaun Fallan was just off target with a header on meeting a Ronald Fleming free kick.

At the other end Hawick number one, Dean Fry denied Eyemouth an opener when doing well to keep out a Ross Wylie drive.

Searching for a win that would lift them from their bottom place spot in the East of Scotland first division league table, the Albert were having the better of matters but were finding Mutch a difficult man to beat.

Andy Noble found this out when having a net bound shot tipped round the post by the inform keeper. Minutes later Kevin Strathdee had a header pushed over the bar by Mutch.

In the 37th minute Hawick took the lead. After latching onto a long ball from the back, Graeme Young found the net with a shot that Mutch reached with an outstretched hand but failed to stop.

United began the second half strongly and following a Scott Adams corner Fleming came to the Albert’s rescue in kicking a Wylie header off the goal line.

Within minutes of this Young squandered a golden opportunity to put the home side further ahead when blasting a shot way over the bar with an empty goal gaping in front of him, from a Strathdee pass.

Eyemouth began to come more into the picture after this and George Windram came near to snatching an equaliser before Aiden Lauder was thwarted by a Fry save.

Both sides pushed for goals from here on and although there were close calls at the respective ends, there was no addition to the scoring.
