Hawick Waverley were hit for six in a Waddell Cup quarter-final clash at a windswept West Barns.
The visitors had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock on getting a penalty after a West Barns man had brought down Jordan Yardley. There was to be no goal for the Hawick side though as the Star keeper saved the spot kick from Taylor Hope.
Yardley then came close to putting Waverley in front when rattling a shot against the post.
Minutes later Waverley were awarded a second penalty. Declan Hogg was the taker this time around, but his effort was also kept out by the West Barns number one. Hogg darted in to slot away the ball on the rebound.
In a dramatic ending to the first half, Waverley were reduced to 10 men when Davis Hope was given his marching orders for upending a West Barns attacker in the box.
Star were also awarded a penalty which they netted. West Barns duly notched a second before having a player red carded.
Following the break, Star scored a further four times to run out 6-1 winners.
Back in the Borders Gala Hotspur booked their place in the next round of the Forsyth Cup through a well-earned 3-0 away win over Hawick Legion Rovers.
