The ground was not snow-covered, frost-bitten or waterlogged, but Hawick Royal Albert’s scheduled home match with Burntisland Shipyard was nevertheless postponed.
The reason being Hawick’s senior football side had only seven players available last Saturday and were unable to fulfil the fixture.
Within a short period of this being announced, Hawick were not only without a game, but minus a manager due to the resignation of stand-in boss, John Fettes.
Talking of Saturday’s whirlwind of events, Fettes, who had been put in charge of Hawick until the end of the season following the departure of Graeme Chadwick, said: “I am absolutely gutted that we couldn’t raise a side and it’s been my biggest ever disappointment in football.
“Because of a multitude of things we had players missing and unfortunately I haven’t got any magic to make players appear.”
Hawick Royal Albert are looking to restore some pride this Saturday when they meet Duns away from home, while Kelso United entertain high-flying Peebles Rovers at Woodside Park.
