Great start goes begging

Kelso United 2

Craigroyston 4

GEORGE RILEY reports from Woodside Park

UNITED started like a rocket, scoring two goals in the first five minutes, but unfortunately it turned into a damp squib after conceding three in the second-half, giving Craigie their first away win of the season.

The game was only a minute old when Chris Tait tried a speculative shot on goal from 20 yards which Craigie keeper Stuart Addison seemed to have covered but the ball went straight through his legs and into the net.

It got even better in the fifth minute when Kelso were awarded a free kick from 35yds out. Des Burnett stepped up and hit a screamer which hit the underside of the bar before going over the line.

The visitors tried to get back in the game, but it was the 34th minute before they had a sight of goal, Sean Fallon’s uncontested header going straight into the arms of David Simmonds in the United goal.

Craigie got a goal back just before the break when Chris Black, taking an age to clear, was robbed by Stephen Mullen, who whipped in a cross to the back post and Steven Finlayson outjumped John McCutcheon to head home.

The visitors levelled in the 58th minute when a quick break by Fallon and Kenny Manson set up Mullen who made no mistake.

Two minutes later and Craigie were in front. A free kick floated into the box was headed against the bar by Paul Russell, and after Mullen did the same, defender Keith Harper was on hand to dive and head home the rebound.

Craigroyston’s fourth goal came from a Fallon cross which found substitute Steven Malin to head past the keeper.
