Goals galore in midweek matches

BORDERS football teams were involved in midweek action as both Lowland and East of Scotland League outfits jostled for early advantage.

Gala Fairydean Rovers welcomed Edinburgh City to Netherdale where a cracking six-goal thriller was served up. All six goals came in the second half and, with only minutes remaining, Dougie Gair scored what looked like the winner for the visitors, but in injury time Stuart Noble popped up to score and ensure a share of the spoils.

Vale of Leithen visited Ainslie Park, to take on Spartans, where the result was also a draw. Vale were on top for most of the first half and were rewarded when Scott Moffat headed home. Spartans stepped up a gear in the second half and drew level with 10 minutes to go.

Selkirk travelled to Raydale to face Gretna and were beaten 5-0.

Stirling University went two points clear of Vale at the top of the league after beating bottom placed Preston Athletic.

In the second round of games in the EOS Qualifying league Hawick Royal Albert beat Duns 5-2, while Easthouses got the better of Peebles Rovers 5-3.
