Gala Fairydean Rovers jumped into sixth position in the highly competitive Lowland League with a deserved victory over BSC Glasgow at the 3G Arena on Saturday.

It was the manner of the performance which was the most pleasing factor for the home side as they controlled the game for long spells.

They should have been well out of sight before the visitors pulled a goal back with three minutes remaining to ensure a

needlessly nervy finish.

Midfielder Darren Smith broke the deadlock in the 36th minute with a spectacular half-volley which left keeper Stephen Barr with no chance.

Five minutes after the interval, Stuart Noble’s cutback picked out skipper Billy Miller, who fired the ball into the net.

Noble almost made it three with a close-range pile-driver which produced a spectacular save from Barr.

Gala were rarely troubled but sub Paul Keys netted a consolation goal in the 87th minute.

In injury time, Gala sub Ryan Clapperton broke clear only for keeper Barr to produce another fine save.

Gala manager Steven Noble said:”It was a fairly even opening 25 minutes but, after that, we took a strong grip of the game and played some great stuff.

“We created plenty of chances and it was a real team performance.

“That’s us up to sixth spot in the table and we want to finish as high as possible.

“There are four league games left and they will all be tough but the players have shown what they are capable of.”
