“Although we had a side that was more or less chucked together I was pleased with our performance in our last game against Gala Fairydean Rovers. Sure we ended getting beat but considering everything I thought we did really well.”

Former Hibs and Scotland star O’Connor who has been in charge of the Yarrow Park outfit for just a few games since taking over the reins from the sacked Steve Forrest went on to add: “Like other sides we haven’t played a lot lately but training sessions have been at a high tempo and the spirit in the squad is good.

“I am trying hard to get things right at Selkirk and have made some new signings. Due to one thing or another, these players have not been getting the chance to establish themselves though but their time will come.

“It will be tough against the Vale on Saturday but hopefully we will get a result.”

In another Lowland League clash, Gala Fairydean Rovers entertain Edinburgh City at Netherdale.

Hawick Royal Albert travel to Edinburgh to tackle Craigroyston at St Marks Park.

The Albert are minus new signing Brian Allison. An ex-Falkirk and Stirling Albion defender suffered and achilles injury during a training session and it could be some time before he makes his Hawick debut.
