Football: A look ahead to the weekend fixtures

Netherdale is the venue for a derby battle this weekend which sees Gala Fairydean Rovers square up against Vale of Leithen.

Speaking of the game, Gala manager Steven Noble said: “We were a bit unlucky to lose against Gretna last Saturday as we played well and dominated the game.

“If we perform the same way against the Vale we are in with a good chance of getting a result. We dropped down a couple of places in the league by getting beat by Gretna so we need a win.”

Vale manager Micky Lawson commented, “Unless it snows, the game will go ahead as it’s on Gala’s 3G pitch.

“It’s good to be able to prepare for a game during the week knowing that it has a really good chance of getting played.

“We played Leith Athletic in a bounce game last Saturday. It was a good workout for us and it also gave us a chance to play on a 3G surface which is a good preparation for the Gala game.

“Steve Noble has a good strong side at Gala. Gala have some very useful players including Stevie’s brother Stuart who is always a handful.

“Although we are inclined to make mistakes which is something we really need to sort out, we are very competitive and it should be a very interesting game on Saturday.”

Lawson hopes to have a new signing in his line up for the Netherdale clash.

Following this Lowland League encounter, Hawick Royal Albert are set to face Duns in an East of Scotland League tussle.

However, should Duns South of Scotland Challenge Cup tie against Whitehill Welfare, which should have taken place last night, have been postponed there would be a change of fixture.

The Duns/Whitehill game would be played on Saturday, while Hawick would meet Ormiston away from home.

Peebles rovers travel to tangle with Eyemouth United.
