MORE THAN 120 children from 12 different football teams in the Borders took part in the region’s first Football Festival for 11-year-old players.
Organised by Borders Sport & Leisure and the Scottish Borders Junior Football Association, the festival was held at the 3G Arena Netherdale in Galashiels on Saturday, and saw the teams taking part in a series of matches. For some of the young footballers it was their first opportunity to play on an artificial surface.
The teams participating in the festival were Ancrum, Earlston, Gala Dean, Greenlaw, Hawick, Kelso, Lauderdale, Leithen Vale, Melrose, Selkirk, Tweedbank and Hutchison Vale.
Drew Kelly, Scottish FA Football Development Officer told us: “Events like this provide an invaluable opportunity and experience.
“It is not about winning, but about generating an enthusiasm for the sport and developing their abilities.
“Thanks to everyone who took part.”
