Final place for Fairies

Gala Fairydean Under-19s 5

Spartans Under-19s 1

PLAYING in just their first season Gala Under-19s have made the final of the Youth League Cup with a stunning victory over Spartans at Netherdale on Sunday.

The Dean started well and looked comfortable in the opening stages, and it wasn’t long before Billy Miller opened the scoring with a tremendous 20-yard strike.

Gala were beginning to cause Spartans problems on the break and the pace and composure of Allan Smith saw them go two up before half-time.

Showing a new-found confidence and belief, the Fairies continued to dominate and Miller made it three with a curling free kick. Spartans replied with a dangerous cross that somehow found its way into the corner.

The game was then put to bed with Smith cooly finishing.

The city boys never gave in, but found it difficult to break down a solid defence.

Deep into stoppage time Gala made it five with a cross from Luke Gierus that sailed into the top corner to round off what was a tremendous day.

Gala Fairydean will be running at least one coach to the cup final against Edinburgh City at The Spartans Academy (date to be confirmed).

Anyone wishing to put their names down for the coach should either drop into the club this weekend or phone Jos Ritchie on 07879 845735.
