Fairies’ woe after poor start

FIELDING six of their under-19s players Gala Fairydean continued their struggle in the League Cup qualifiers on Saturday only to suffer a heavy defeat at the hands of Edinburgh City.

Playing the second last of their four pool games, with only the section winners and runners-up qualifying for the next round, that particular campaign is now over for the Fairies, who have suffered from a series of injuries and suspensions over the last few weeks.

A first-half hat-trick from City striker Robbie Ross ended any hopes Fraser Lothian’s men had of progressing in the competition on Saturday.

Gala Fairydean: E. Turnbull, P. Young, M. Fairburn, B. McGregor, G. Lothian, A. Imlan, D. Bonner, J. Wilson, S. Nightingale, M. Berry, S. Schulz-Keith. Subs: F. Myer, D. Bolton, A. McCulloch.

z Further woe was to follow this week as the Netherdale outfit suffered a 3-0 defeat on the road to Duns on Tuesday night in their final match in this competition, leaving them rooted firmly to the foot of the Section B table.
