Ex-Crystal Palace player Fenwick signs for Selkirk

This week, the club announced it had signed former Crystal Palace, Cardiff City and Torquay midfielder Bayan Fenwick.

The 22-year-old left Torquay at the end of December “by mutual consent”.

Described as “lively and energetic”, he struggled to get much game time at Torquay, and player/manager Kevin Nicholson said on his exit: “I hope he moves on and kick-starts his career ... and hope he proves me wrong elsewhere.”

Selkirk chairman Ross Anderson said Fenwick had contacted Selkirk just after he left Cardiff in 2013, to enquire about the club’s links with the football academy in Majorca.

Anderson said: “That just seemed to fizzle out, but after he left Torquay, he contacted us again. We will be putting him in the shop window ... and other clubs have already expressed an interest.”

If that was not enough, Selkirk’s starting XI tomorrow could include no less than three former Scottish internationals.

With O’Connor and David Robertson already on the books, Anderson said that they hope to sign former Dundee United defender Garry Kenneth, who has most recently played for Latvian club Skonto Riga and Forfar.

Anderson also revealed that former Rangers and Livingston youngster, 17-year-old Ross King, could also take to the pitch.

He said: “It’s really good news for the club that so many players are interested in playing for us. We are certainly a lot stronger than we were before the break, and with Garry [O’Connor] as manager, we are attracting players we couldn’t before.”

And O’Connor said: “We have been putting in a lot of work in the transfer window behind the scenes. I’m wanting to put my own stamp on the team. It won’t happen all at once, but bringing in players of this kind of quality is what I want to do.

“Big Garry [Kenneth] is a great player and he should be in the SPL, but he has had a hard time of it with injuries of late and he just wants to play with Robbo and I, and eventually get back to the level where he should be.

“And Bayan is another fantastic signing. He has so much talent.

“Hopefully, he can rip up the Lowland League, but we’ll be targeting a cup run or two, because that will more suit where we are right now.”

The club has also re-signed youngster Kerr Scott from Newstead.

Weather permitting, Saturday’s match kicks off at Yarrow Park at 2pm.
