NETHERDALE’S 3G pitch project will finally get the go-ahead if backed by Scottish Borders Council this Tuesday, writes Kenny Paterson.
SBC’s capital management group approved plans to commit £450,000 from the council’s coffers to the scheme at Gala Fairydean Football Club this week.
But a final endorsement at next week’s meeting of the executive committee is also needed.
The project received a £200,000 grant from the Scottish Government’s CashBack for Communities programme last week.
And sportscotland are expected to provide the remaining £300,000, should the 12-man council committee support the hi-tech synthetic surface, which will be used by the town’s football and rugby clubs.
SBC’s senior sports development officer Dougie Anderson said: “It’s fantastic news for the Netherdale 3G pitch project that it has been identified by the Scottish FA to receive funding from the CashBack facility strand.
“We now have to await the outcomes from both the Scottish Borders Council and sportscotland stage two submissions, and if both are successful then we will be ready to deliver the first 3G pitch within the Borders.”
