Fancy trying out a new sport? That’s a coincidence ...

Selkirk Community Sports Hub will host its first “Come and Try” fun day for everyone in the town.

Taking place on Saturday, July 11, the free event will provide a taster of an array of different sports including bowling, archery, canoeing and cricket, with local clubs hosting each session.

Greig Shortreed, Borders Sport and Leisure’s club development officer, said: “This is a brilliant idea from Selkirk Community Sports Hub.

“Clubs in the local area have been discussing ways to try and bring in new members plus give the community the chance to try out different activities. Their decision to host this free fun day combines both elements.”

Throughout the morning Ettrick Forrest Archers will demonstrate the key elements of shooting with a longbow, the cricket club will showcase batting skills, the canoe club will introduce the excitement and techniques of paddling and Selkirk Bowling Club will help participants develop the perfect bowling action.

The fun day will be held at Selkirk Cricket Club from 9.30am-12.30pm and at Selkirk Leisure Centre from10.30am to 12.30pm. There will be activities on offer suitable for ages five to adult.
