Langholm ended a dismal league season in which they have continually struggled for numbers, with a heavy defeat away to champions Preston Lodge.

The home side played some great rugby and ran in 15 tries to go beyond the 100 points mark for the third time this season.

Langholm travelled with a young squad of only 15, with a number having to play out of position. The Milntown side played some nice rugby when creating space and moving wide, but saw very little of the ball and had to defend for long periods. The continual defending took its toll and made it a very tiring afternoon for the Langholm side who had no replacements to send on.

Langholm did go near to scoring on several occasions from driving mauls but were just held on the line. The Milntown men eventual made the breach in 77 minutes when flanker Scott Howatson went over from ruck possession.

Preston Lodge will now try to add the RBS shield to the league trophy when they play Caithness on April 19. It has been a record breaking season for the club having won all 18 league matches, with 16 scoring bonus points. They have scored 929 points, which is 271 more than their nearest rivals RHC. Jason Riley has 24 tries, and Graeme Patterson, who had a try and 13 conversions against Langholm, has over 300 points.
