Borders Sport and Leisure (BSL) has announced that Peter Duncan, managing director of Edinburgh-based communications company and former Member of Parliament, is the new chairman of its board.
A sports enthusiast with particular interests in rugby and equestrianism, Mr Duncan has held senior management positions in a number of businesses, and was MP for Galloway and Upper Nithsdale between 2001 and 2005.
He lives near Earlston and runs the communications consultancy which he founded in 2012.
Ewan Jackson, chief executive of BSL, said: “Peter is an exceptional addition to our board, bringing with him a wealth of business experience and a huge amount of passion and enthusiasm for sport.
“We are very fortunate to have a board comprising of committed volunteers who bring professional knowledge and skills to the table, and who work hand-in-hand with our dedicated staff and partners to enhance sport and leisure opportunities throughout our region.”
Mr Duncan added: “I am looking forward to playing my part in ensuring the continuing success of Borders Sport and Leisure and in helping to shape the development of the services it provides.”
Mr Duncan succeeds journalist David Ferguson, who served as BSL chairman from 2013- 2014.
Graeme Capper, a chartered surveyor and athletics coach, is vice-chair.
BSL was founded in 2003 and is responsible for running many of the sports and leisure facilities and programmes in the region, including the sports development and Active Schools programmes.
