The Galashiels-born 30-year-old’s stepfather, Thomson, based just a few miles from the track near Greenlaw, said: “I’d been moaning about having lots of seconds, so these are the days you really cherish, and Ryan is riding so well at the moment.

“The horses are in great form too, and we have a particularly strong team of young novice chasers, which is exciting for everyone.

“The aim for Aloomomo is the veterans’ chase final at Sandown early in the new year and the plan is to go for the qualifier at Leicester.

“Cedar Hill won well here the time before and he won even easier today. That was pleasing because he was stepping up in class so he is clearly still improving.

“The Ferry Master was only having his second start in a chase and the cheekpieces just helped him concentrate.

“It might just turn out that he could be be back here next month for a crack at the Scottish Borders National as he stays so well.”

Hawick’s Alistair Whillans was another Borders trainer on the mark with Leostar, and Daragh Bourke, of Waterbeck, near Langholm, was also among the winners with Old Jewry.

Oxfordshire-based Charlie Longsdon completed a full house of saddling a winner on every UK jumps course when Almazhar Garde took the featured Belhaven Best Wishing Well Handicap Chase in the hands of Paul O’Brien, also enjoying his first taste of success at Kelso.
