The Dumfries driver and his Jedburgh co-driver beat their closest rivals Jock Armstrong and Paula Swinscoe by 50 seconds after nine special stages.

However, they did not have it all their own way in their Fiesta R5+ as Jock Armstrong and Paula Swinscoe pressed them hard in their Subaru Impreza taking second overall and the final podium spot went to Inverness Crew Donnie Macdonald and Andrew Falconer in their Culloden Car sales Mitsubishi Evo 9.

Finishing in 13th place and first in class 6, Malton driver Steve Bannister and Jedburgh co-driver Dave Robson were first in the two wheel category in their Ford Escort MK 2.

Hawick’s Ian Baumgart with Mike Dickson of Gala on the notes, finished 17th overall in his Subaru Impreza while Jedburgh co-driver Alasdair McIlroy partnered Ullapool driver Steven Bellshaw to 43rd and second in class in a Peugeot 205GTi.

Jedburgh’s Paul Wood was on the notes for Glasgow driver Douglas Cameron but they retired their Peugeot 205GTi on the third stage with mechanical problems.
