Cranston, 19, is a greenkeeper at Roxburgh Golf Club and plays off a handicap of 17.

He has been in excellent golfing form recently, said a club spokesman, and scored 11 pars in his winning round.

The highlight came at the Linthaughlee par-three 16th hole. After failing to find the green from the tee, he raked in a 19-foot swinging putt to save par.

“On another glorious weekend, we have seen some brilliant scoring once again,” said the spokesman.

“Competition numbers remain brilliant and the buzz about the course is great to see.”
