The then leader of Scottish Borders Council David Parker officially opened the school after two pipers led pupils from the existing school across the playing fields to their new accommodation. Mr Parker, who was assisted by five-year-old Tamsin Unthank, the youngest primary one pupil, cut ribbons at both the main school and nursery entrances. The building, comprising 10 classrooms with a total capacity for 275 primary pupils, was designed to meet the growing population.
