St Andrews fish and chip shop wins best chippy in Scotland award

A St Andrews fish and chip shop has officially been voted the best in Scotland.

Cromars Classic Fish & Chips on Union Street, St Andrews, took home the title at The National Fish and Chip Awards 2018, organised by Seafish.

Selling crispy whitebait and calamari, homemade fish cakes, pan fried Shetland scallops and of course, haddock and cod suppers put Cromars Classic Fish & Chips restaurant and takeaway as the regional winner of Scotland.

Cromars Classic Fish & Chips was one of the 10 UK finalists which made the final stage of judging and was up against top fish and chips from across the country including: Wales, Northern Ireland, North East England, North West England, Midlands, Eastern England, London & South East England, Central & Southern England and South West England.

Millers Fish & Chips in Haxby, York, North Yorkshire, was crowned the ultimate title of the UK’s best fish and chip shop.

Cromars Classic Fish & Chips was not the only Scottish title recognised for its service to the humble chippy though.

The Quayside Restaurant & Fish Bar in Gourdon Aberdeenshire also beat off tough competition to be recognised as a finalist in the Best Newcomer category.

The Fishworks in North Ayrshire was announced as a finalist in the Best Seafood Week Campaign category and Magda Ganea from The Real Food Cafe in Stirling was also recognised as a finalist in the Drywite Young Fish Frier of the Year Competition.
