Youth groups in cash boost

Six projects have been awarded grants totalling over £6,000 by Youth Chex, part of Scottish Borders Youth Voice.

The Youth Chex grant panel received lots of high quality proposals from a variety of groups from across the region, with the only requirement being that those benefiting being aged between 12-25 years old.

Assessing the applications, the panel scored the bids against a number of indicators including how the projects would make a difference to the lives of young people and whether they were youth-led, innovative and would provide good value for money.

The successful projects this year are: Stow Youth Pipe Band, Hawick High School news team, Hawick High school radio, Kelso High equestrian team, South of Scotland Select Equestrian Vaulting, and Eyemouth High School health and wellbeing day.

Susan Hunter, SBC participation officer, said: “Many congratulations to everyone who has been successful in receiving an award this year.

“We now wish them every success as they put their plans into action.”

The next deadline for applications to be made by youth projects to the Youth Chex fund is Monday, October 13. Forms are available to download from www.scotborders.gov.uk/youthchex
