Take care with charity donations

I know that many people in the south of Scotland give very generously to collectors on their doorstep who sell donated goods for vital charitable causes.

Unfortunately, a small number of bogus companies undertake doorstep collections that see absolutely none of the proceeds reach any charitable or good cause.

I am working closely with the Institute of Fundraising and Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB) on their Give with Care campaign to encourage everyone who gives goods on the doorstep to continue to do so, but do so with care.

Legitimate charitable collectors will display a Scottish charity number (beginning SC0) and have a working telephone number for you to contact them on. You can also look out for the FRSB’s “tick” logo showing the charity has signed up to high standards.

Anyone looking for further information and advice can contact my constituency office. Please continue to donate your unwanted goods – just take that extra care in making sure they go to the good causes they should.
